Obidul Islam : Revolution is the opposite of genocide. The Revolutionary force fights back the regime of a tyrant who commits mass killing. Revolution does not form through a referendum or an act of the Constitution. Revolution is before and beyond the Constitution. When a revolution runs for a long time, it becomes a Liberation war. Revolution comes from the conscious consent of the public and carries a heavenly spirit. A successful revolution overthrows the regime’s top authority or ousts the Constitution’s top position holder. No political party can be a revolutionary party. Revolutionary parties do not get a registration from an election commission. For instance, The Pakistan Awami League (1949) was not a revolutionary party, but The Mukti Bahini was the revolutionary force.
There are differences between a king and a president. President is a position of the Constitution. The Constitution gives the executive power of The President. The people elect a President. In contrast, The subjects do not elect A king. The King is the living Constitution. A nation with a king does not require a constitution—for example, the United Kingdom. A nation with no king requires a constitution—for example, The United States of America. A constitution is a bill of contract for the citizens of a land to set the Government. The Constitution is for a sovereign nation to cover the needs of a King. The symbol of a nation’s sovereignty is the Sovereignty Monument. The historical buildings and landmarks hold the identity of the nation’s independence. Every citizen is in the contract to keep the nation’s sovereignty intact. Military and armed forces stay on the front line, and importantly, all citizens are the reserve force of the sovereign nation. Revolting against a king is considered treachery, but revolting against a Prime Minister or a President is not. Conspiring against the sovereignty of the nation is treachery.
The Constitution of Bangladesh before the July-August Revolution of 2024 gave the prime minister the topmost power, not the president. Since the July-August Revolution 2024 successfully overthrew the head of the tyrant regime in retaliation for the July-August genocide, it completes the requirements of being a revolution.
Everyone who participated in the process of the revolution was a stakeholder of the revolution. Every stakeholder is equally essential. Revolution is the work of a team, and there is no ‘I’ in the team. Demands of revolution and constitutional reform are two separate matters. Constitutional reform can occur after or without the revolution. Revolution can bring constitutional reform or keep the past Constitution intact. The war-winning Government formed after the revolution is a revolutionary government, not necessarily because the members of the Government participated in the formation of the revolution or took part actively in the revolution but because they take the risk of being the victim of the revenge of the fallen tyranny regime. The revolution’s warfare segment ends with the formation of the revolutionary Government, but the revolution continues until an elected Government comes.
