Community Meeting on Bangladeshi Refugees Held in Sydney

Suprovat Sydney report: The Bangladeshi Refugees of Australia Inc. organised a significant meeting with community leaders on Wednesday evening, 5th November 2025, at Sultano Café, Lakemba, Sydney.

During the meeting, both the leaders and members of the refugee community expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the Department of Home Affairs and the Immigration Department for opening the Australian Humanitarian Stay (Temporary) Visa – Subclass 449. This new subclass provides a temporary safe haven for individuals affected by major humanitarian crises, offering them safety and dignity while they rebuild their lives.

Community leader Alamgir Babu, General Secretary of the Bangladesh Association of Australia Inc., and Abdullah Yousuf, Chief Advisor of the Bangladeshi Refugees of Australia Inc., extended special thanks to Hon. Tony Burke MP for his continued dedication and tireless efforts in supporting the refugee and asylum seeker communities in Australia.

Leaders also discussed the situation of Bangladeshi refugees who have been living peacefully in Australia for around 13 years, many of whom have no criminal record and have integrated well into the community. The meeting resolved that community representatives will once again raise this matter with Minister Hon. Tony Burke MP for further consideration and support.
