Mobarok Hossain Tany: The Quran is the holy book which Muslims recite and turn to for guidance in all aspects of their life. It is the last testament in a series of divine revelations from Allah. It comprises the unaltered and direct words of God, revealed through the Angel Gibrael, to the final Prophet, Muhammad (pbuh) 1400 years ago. The Quran contains numerous verses highlighting natural phenomena that align with modern scientific discoveries, often interpreted as signs of divine knowledge. Quran reveals the unknown and unseen factors whose was totally impossible to know about 1400 years ago by the human being though these are proved today scientifically. In (Surah Furkan verse 53) Allah says, “And it is He who has released [simultaneously] the two seas [i.e., bodies of water], one fresh and sweet and one salty and bitter, and He placed between them a barrier and a prohibiting partition”. Amazing part is that scientist recently discovered that when fresh water and salty water meet they don’t mix. There is an invisible barrier between them called a halocline, which keeps them separate, isn’t it incredible? Again the Quran shows the concept of pain receptors. If your skin is burnt deeply you will feel no pain. Human skin has three layers if the first two layers burn, you will feel pain but if it burns the third layer, you will feel no pain. This is called third degree burn which burns the nerves leaving no pain. The holy Quran mentions it and says, (chapter 4 verse 56) “Surely We shall cast those who reject Our signs into the Fire; and as often as their skins are burnt out, We shall give them other skins in exchange that they may fully taste the chastisement. Surely Allah is All-Mighty, All-Wise.” Do we know much on the production process of cow milk? When the cow eats food it goes to the small intestine after a long process a plant absorbs milk nutrients from the digested food in the small intestine, it filters the nutrients and the milk is formed overall the milk comes after passing between the digested food and the blood. This complicated production process is clearly mentioned in the holy Quran almost 1400 years ago. The Quran says, (chapter16 verse 66)“And indeed, for you in grazing livestock is a lesson. We give you drink from what is in their bellies – between excretion and blood – pure milk, palatable to drinkers”.
Surah Hadid, 57th chapter of the holy Quran, contains verse 25 which always a talk of the topic by the scholars and the scientists for the description of it as a substance “sent down” to our earth. Allah says, “Indeed, We sent Our messengers with clear proofs, and with them We sent down the Scripture and the balance of justice so that people may administer justice. And We sent down iron with its great might, benefits for humanity, and means for Allah to prove who is willing to stand up for Him and His messengers without seeing Him. Surely Allah is All-Powerful, Almighty.” At present modern science confirms that iron is forged in the core of massive stars through nuclear fusion and dispersed via supernova explosions. It came on this earth through meteorite bombardment during the early formation of the earth. Just think how would a book know from 1400 years ago the fact? Besides, the Quranic verses detailing embryology are primarily found in Surah Al-Mu’minun (23:12-14) and Surah Al-Hajj (22:5), describing human development in stages: a drop of fluid (nutfah), a clinging clot (alaqah), a chewed-like lump (mudghah), bones, and clothing the bones with flesh. Similiarly,According to the scientists, life in the Uterus has three segment 1. Pre-embryonic stage (first two and half week) 2. Embryonic stage (up to the end of 8th week) 3. Fetal stage (8th week to the birth). These verses emphasize the creation of life. Key Quranic Embryology Verses: Surah Al-Mu’minun (23:12-14):“We created man from an extract of clay. Then We made him as a drop (nutfah) in a place of settlement, firmly fixed. Then We made the drop into a clinging clot (alaqah), then We made the clot into a lump (mudghah), then We made [from] the lump, bones, and We covered the bones with flesh; then We developed him into another creation. So blessed is Allah, the best of creators”.Surah Al-Hajj (22:5): also mentions the stages of dust, sperm, clinging clot and a lump of flesh,“partly formed and partly unformed,” to clarify development in the womb. Not only that but also the holy Quran is full of core scientific theme such as the big bang theory, expanding universe, orbits, aquatic origin of life, mountain as a stakes, internal waves, meeting of two seas, frontal lobe and so on. That’s why it is considered as “The book of science and book of signs.”
