Jihad Dib MP Commends SES Volunteers, Leads Response Efforts in Flood-Hit NSW

Reported by Suprovat Sydney: Amid ongoing severe weather across the Hunter and Mid-North Coast regions, Member for Bankstown,Member of the Legislative Assembly,Minister for Customer Service and Digital Government, Minister for Emergency Services, and Minister for Youth JusticeHon: Jihad Dib MP has joined frontline emergency crews to support flood-affected communities, highlighting the tireless work of volunteers and multi-agency responders.

As intense storms and heavy rainfall continue to lash parts of New South Wales, emergency services remain on high alert. Mr. Dib praised the efforts of the State Emergency Service (SES), which has mobilised more than 1,600 volunteers to respond to calls for help during this critical time.

“Many of us have been dealing with storms throughout the week, but we must remain vigilant in the coming days as forecasts warn of further heavy rainfall,” Mr. Dib said.

The SES has been actively preparing for worsening conditions, with emergency equipment pre-positioned along the coastline to respond swiftly to reports of strong winds, flash flooding, and dangerous surf.

Speaking from the flood zone, Mr. Dib joined crews delivering essential supplies to isolated residents. “Today I’ve seen first-hand the dedication of our emergency services. In the worst of times, we truly see the best in people,” he said.

Currently, over 2,500 volunteers and emergency personnel are deployed across the affected areas, supported by 19 helicopters and more than 500 boats. Mr. Dib affirmed that all available resources are being sent to support impacted communities.

In a further show of support, Mr. Dib has signed a protection order for volunteers, ensuring their employment rights are safeguarded during their service in this crisis. “The ongoing support of our volunteers will be crucial in the days and weeks ahead,” he said.

He also extended his gratitude to volunteers from across the state, including locals from his own electorate. “It was heartening to meet some Bankstown locals who’ve travelled north to help those in need. People from every corner of NSW are stepping up.”

In a heartfelt message shared with the only Bangladeshi newspaper in Australia, Suprovat Sydney, Mr. Dib responded personally, saying: ” I will continue to do a good job and represent our community in a way that makes us all proud.”

As floodwaters continue to rise, the community response remains strong. Mr. Dib concluded by thanking all volunteers for their unwavering dedication:
