  • Skills to build and strengthen community-led media platforms

The event schedule included arrival registration, meet and greet, an MC welcome, and housekeeping professionally conducted by the experienced journalist and MC, Taufeeq Sheikh.

The program commenced with the name of the Creator of the universe, followed by the recitation of Surah Al-Fatiha and its translation by Md Abdullah Yousuf, EC Member of SPMC and Editor-in-Chief of Suprovat Sydney.

A small but dynamic panel of four journalists Shahana Bashir, Sami F, Fazal ul Haq, and Md Abdullah Yousufled discussions on the future of independent media and media governance.

The first speaker, Shahana Bashar, delivered an insightful and compelling presentation on Why Independent Media Matters. She shared her professional experiences, along with real-life challenges that every journalist should be aware of.

We extend our sincere appreciation to Enes Cansever, Chief Editor of Zaman, The Turkish Newspaper in Australia, for his significant support and presence.

This was followed by a panel discussion addressing several important issues relevant to journalists today. A Q&A session allowed participants to raise questions, both in-person and online. Hasan Jalil efficiently coordinated the online segment of the event.

The workshop successfully highlighted the vital role of independent media and provided valuable insights to strengthen community journalism across Australia.
