suprovat sydney Report: The current Labor government, led by Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, is attempting to ensure greater protection and rights for temporary workers in Australia through a new law recently introduced to the National Parliament.

The proposed law incorporates three recommendations made by a taskforce on migrant workers. This was announced in a press release from the office of Hon Tony Burke MP, Minister for Employment and Workplace Relations, Minister for the Arts and Member for Watson, the most multicultural areas in Australia

“Temporary visa workers may have poor knowledge of their workplace rights or may be fearful about seeking help about pay and conditions and enterprise agreements, superannuation and workplace safety. Too often, these vulnerabilities are exploited by unscrupulous employers.” However, “Temporary migrant workers make an essential contribution to our economy and society and are entitled to the same workplace rights and protections as Australian citizens and permanent residents. The Australian Government is committed to the fairer and more equitable workplace relations system Australians need, want and deserve,” Minister Burke said.

In Australia, various government institutions such as the Fair Work Commission and the Ombudsman, along with different legal protections, ensure the rights of workers and employees in their workplaces. Ensuring these rights for temporary migrant workers reflects a significant commitment of the current Labor government towards human rights and a more civilised society. This is a highly commendable initiative, appreciated by various communities.
