Suprovat Sydney report : The interim government has appointed Dr. Anisuzzaman Chowdhury as the special assistant to the Chief Adviser of Bangladesh Professor Mohammed Yunus. A notification regarding this appointment was issued on Monday (10 March 2025), by the Cabinet Division. According to the notification, Dr. Anisuzzaman has been appointed as the Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser with the rank and status of a state Minister. While holding the position of special assistant, he will enjoy the rank, salary, allowances, and privileges of a State Minister.
Notably, Sydney man Dr. Anisuzzaman is a renowned economist and policy-maker. He has played a significant role in the country’s financial sector and policy formulation for many years. He has worked with various international organizations and research institutions and is recognized as an expert in economic development and policy analysis.
Dr. Anisuzzaman has had a long-standing association with the Ministry of Finance. He has also served as an advisor at various levels of government. His research and analyses have been widely appreciated both nationally and internationally.
Before being appointed as the Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser, Dr. Anisuzzaman held important positions in multiple governmental and non-governmental organizations.
Dr. Anis (Anisuzzaman) Chowdhury is Emeritus Professor, Western Sydney University, Australia & Managing Editor, and Asia-Pacific Sustainable Development Journal, Co-editor, Journal of the Asia Pacific Economy.
He was also Former Director, UN-ESCAP, Macroeconomic Policy & Development Division and Statistics Division (July 2012-May 2015); Chief, UN-DESA (Financing for Development Office, Multi-Stakeholder Engagement & Outreach; June 2015-Jan. 2016); Professor of Economics, University of Western Sydney, Australia (2001-2012).
