Sydney residence Faruq Ahmed Eng. joins Dhaka Metro Rail operations

Suprovat Sydney report: On February 20, 2025, Faruq Ahmed Engineer assumed the role of Managing Director (MD) of the state-owned company Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL), which is responsible for the construction and operation of the metro rail.

After the interim government took office, the Ministry of Road Transport issued an international recruitment notice for the MD position of DMTCL, the company managing the metro rail operations. A total of 76 candidates, both local and international, applied for the position.

A six-member committee, led by Professor ABM Badruzzaman, Vice-Chancellor of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), shortlisted seven candidates from the applicants. Among them, Faruq Ahmed was recommended for final appointment.

Before taking charge as the MD of DMTCL, Faruq Ahmed was involved in a specialized highway construction project in Uttar Pradesh, India, spanning 3,700 kilometers for freight transportation. Prior to that, he worked on the East-West Line of Kolkata Metro Rail.

Faruq Ahmed completed his Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) in 1982. In 1990, he obtained a Master’s degree in Civil Engineering from the University of New South Wales, Australia. In 2004, he completed a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Australia.

Although his professional commitments have limited his engagement with the Sydney community, the residents of Sydney are delighted with his remarkable achievement. Suprovat Sydney wishes him continued success.
