The ‘severe cyclone’ named REMAL, made landfall near khepupara of Patuakhali district with wind speeds of up to 130 kmph from 26 May midnight to 27 May early morning. The low-lying areas of the 19 coastal districts, Khulna, Satkhira, Bagerhat, Jhalakathi, Barisal, Patuakhali, Pirojpur, Barguna, Bhola, Feni, Cox’s Bazar, Chattogram, Noakhali, Lakshmipur, Chandpur, Narail, Gopalganj, Shariatpur and Jashore and their offshore chars (silt deposited islands) are severely affected. At least 3.75 million people in 19 coastal districts have been affected by the cyclone.

 

Cyclone Remal has left behind a trail of destruction. An estimated 35,000 houses along the coastal belt have been fully destroyed, and 115,000 houses have been partially damaged. Fisheries, livestock, and croplands have been washed away, affecting immediate and long-term livelihoods. After cyclone Sidr’ 2007 and Cyclone Aila 2009, Cyclone Remal has destroyed vastly in the coastal region. The cyclone was accompanied by tidal waves up to 10 meters high and surges up to 12 meters in some areas, breaching coastal and river embankments, flooding low-lying areas and causing extensive physical destruction

 

Like any other Natural disaster support, Bangladesh Australia Disaster Relief Committee (BADRC) is appealing to you to  donate generously to ease the sufferings of many victims of cyclone Remal.

 

The reputable NGO Dhaka Ahsania Mission(DAM) is on the ground carrying out humanitarian works in the district of Barguna, Patuakhali, Bagerhat, Khulna and Sathkhira etc. Your heartfelt support will strengthen the humanitarian activities of DAM and BADRC. DAM is willing to distribute every dollar we will send .

DAM will buy food, medicine, hygiene materials ,provide means of pure water and cash for the repair of the house.
